Get ready for wild rockin' nights on the road as Phish takes their jam and improv hits to the new heights this summer. Kicking off a new round of shows, the band comrpised of Trey Anastasio, Jon Fishman, Mike Gordon, and Page McConnell is stoked to share new surprises, big hits, and some new material in an unpredictable range of setlists. Since their formation back in 1983, their shows have always been filled with surprises, and their most loyal fans could never predict what one concert will be like. Well, that's the rockin' beauty of a jam & improv night.
Phish is widely recognized for their musical improv and jam nights, creating a devoted following among fans since their formation in 1983. Formed by Anastasio, Gordon, Fishman, and former guitarist Jeff Holdsowrth, the band started of regularloy playing in bars back in '84 and garnered residency bookings from then on. Today, they've released 16 studio albums, and released every single show they performed since 2002 via LivePhish.
From generating a tribe of followers by word-of-mouth buzz exchanging live recordings, the word soon spread around the globe about the band's dynamic exploration of folk, funk, country, jazz, progressive rock, psychedelic, rock, blues, pop, and many more genres you can name. These endless loops have been loosely described as "jams" or improv masterpieces. Thousands of fans race to have their hands snatching up the hottest tickest because each show is a surprising affair. Plus, did you know that this band is one of the first artists to use the internet to grow their fanbase? Yep, they even encouraged people to tape their live shows and spread the word. Rolling Stone called Phish "the most important band of the '90s."
Since their 90s heyday, Phish has gone through a couple of hiatus periods, yet fans remained hopeful that it wasn't the end of the road just yet. Since officialy reuniting in 2008, the band has been on the road for endless improv nights.
In the mid 90s, Phish was a prominent player in the jam band scene. Following Jerry Garcia's deah in 1995, the Los Angeles Times listed Phish as one of the most prominent bands out there. As fans traded show recordings online in the 90s, their early content could literally make up a whole chunk of internet time capsules.
Various artists have credited Phish as a great influence to their work, including Maroon 5's Adam Levine and James Valentine, Icubus' Brandon Boyd, and Radiohead's Ed O'Brien, amonhg many more successful names in music.
The band has performed 87 shows at the massive Madison Square Garden since their first concert at the famed venue back in 1994. They rank behind the only record-holder Billy Joel for having the most shows at MSG.
In 2025, Phish was nominated for an induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, recognized for the great impact in the jam scene. Celebrated to this day and keeping their shows up & running much to the demand of both longtime fans and new generations of rock heads, Phish truly deserves it.
About the nomination, Trey Anastasio shared with GQ how it's much of a celebration for their community of fans, knowing that they've always stood lef of center back when they formed the band. "But what we’ve always had going for us is this incredibly strong connection with our fans, our community."
With another run of shows this summer, they're out here keeping the legacy alive. There's no stopping Phish from rocking it out. Don't miss out on the show at Ameris Bank Amphitheatre by booking your tickets now!
