Legendary artist Sir George Ivan Morrison OBE is a singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and record producer who has had a hugely successful career in music that spans more than seven decades. The two-time Grammy award winner began his musical journey in the 1950s by playing instruments for several Irish showbands. In the mid 1960s, he gained widespread recognition as the lead singer of the hit R&B Irish band, Them. His solo career took in 1967, and his single, “Brown Eyed Girl” became a massive hit. Throughout the 1970s, he had several series of acclaimed albums and live performances.
His fans call him “Van the Man” and he is recognized as one of the best live performers worldwide. The majority of his music surrounds conventional soul music & R&B. Despite his technical brilliance at various instruments, Morrison’s music shows the influence of Celtic tradition and provokes a stream of consciousness narrative.
More than 40 of his albums have reached the top UK charts. His latest album, Latest Record Project, Volume 1 (2020), remained in the top ten albums of the UK for four consecutive decades. In 1994, he was awarded a Brit Award for his outstanding contribution to music, and in 2017, he received a lifetime achievement award for songwriting.
