Hootie & the Blowfish are one of the most iconic pop-rock bands. They’ve sold over 25 million records worldwide since they hit the scene in 1994! Remember those catchy tunes like “Hold My Hand,” “Let Her Cry,” and “Only Wanna Be With You”? Yeah, those classics are what made them a household name.
So, the story goes like this – vocalist Darius Rucker, guitarist Mark Bryan, bassist Dean Felber and drummer Jim “Soni” Sonefeld linked up at the University of South Carolina. They started jamming at frat houses and local bars. Their sound was this awesome mix of pop, folk, blues, soul, and rock – basically, a genre-blending feast that everyone could get down with.
Atlantic Records spotted their local magic and signed them up. In 1994, they dropped “Cracked Rear View,” and man, did it explode! After a killer performance on the Late Show with David Letterman, the album shot to No. 1 on the Billboard chart. Two GRAMMYs, an MTV Video Music Award, a Billboard Music Award, and a bunch of People’s Choice Awards later, these guys became unstoppable.
“Cracked Rear View,” with its 21x Platinum status, is still hanging tough among the Top 10 best-selling studio albums in music history. The hits kept coming, and they released more albums like Fairweather Johnson, Musical Chairs, and others. They even took a break from the full-time touring scene in 2007 but made a triumphant return in 2019 with the sold-out Group Therapy Tour.
This year, they’re back and better than ever. Brace yourselves for the Summer Camp with Trucks Tour – it's gonna be one for the books! All brought to you by Live Nation. Adding to the excitement, they're bringing along special guests Collective Soul and Edwin McCain too!
